Memorial Day Spread & Loaded Hot Dogs
We are getting so excited for Memorial Day around here. It’s one of my favorite Holidays! Not only is it the start of summer, and a sunny long weekend, but I love celebrating our country and honoring those in the military who have served and sacrificed.
Here is an idea for a Memorial Day Spread :
- Loaded Hebrew National® Beef Hot Dogs with Hunt’s® Tomato Ketchup and Vlasic® Kosher Dill Pickle Spears
- A fresh salad with greens + cranberries, topped with Wish-Bone® Italian Dressing
- Fresh fruit or a pie (or both!) topped with Reddi-wip® Whipped Topping
You can find all these items at Walmart – it’s so easy to order these items online or find in store. Click here to see more! And click here for some special offers.
Gourmet Style Loaded Hot Dogs
For our Memorial Day Spread, we love to make gourmet-style hot dogs – a typical grilled hot dog with tons of delicious toppings including lime crema, ketchup, pickles, tomatoes, and jalapenos. Add whatever fun sauces and veggies you’d like to your loaded hot dogs. It’s a fun way to make BBQ food taste a little more elevated. Hebrew National Beef Hot Dogs have been our favorite hot dogs for years. They are high-quality hot dogs made with 100% premium cuts of kosher beef. I love that they are Gluten-free hot dogs made with no artificial flavors, artificial colors, fillers, or by-products.
Topped with some Hunt’s Tomato Ketchup and Vlasic Kosher Dill Pickle Spears, you have the start of a delicious loaded hot dog. With no preservatives and quality ingredients, this classic Hunt’s Tomato Ketchup is delicious to dip or top burgers, nuggets, tots, fries, and more. Hunt’s Tomato Ketchup starts with vine-ripened tomatoes, choice seasonings, and spices for a flavorful, thick sauce because your great meal deserves a great condiment. And we love Vlasic Kosher Dill Pickle Spears because they are deliciously crunchy.
Easy Green Salad
BBQs are typically on the heavier side, so I love to bring a side salad or veggie dish to every outdoor BBQ. One of my favorite easy go-to salads for this Memorial Day spread is a shredded kale salad (buy the pre-shredded kale!), topped with dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, and Wish-Bone Italian Dressing. It’s so simple to throw together but so fresh and light. The savory Italian dressing has a bold flavor and is paired with the sweet cranberries, the salty sunflower seeds, and the crunchy greens. It’s a perfect easy summer salad. I also love that this Wish-Bone Italian Dressing is made with herbs and spices and contains no high fructose corn syrup.
Summer Desserts
A couple of my favorite BBQ desserts are Creamy Cheesecake and fruit with Whipped Cream. They are crowd-pleasers that go great with the other BBQ food. Click here to get my Creamy Cheesecake recipe. And be sure to top it with some Reddi-wip Whipped Topping. Also, add a big fruit platter to your Memorial Day Spread (click here to see my patriotic fruit flag tutorial!). Make sure to have Reddi-wip Whipped Topping nearby (my kids love to squeeze it), for easy dipping. Is there a better summer treat than fresh fruit and whipped cream? I love that Reddi-wip Whipped Topping is made with real cream. It’s the perfect addition for spring and summer occasions.
Supporting Military Families
For this Memorial Day Spread & Loaded Hot Dogs post I’m partnering with Conagra foods – they not only provide tons of delicious summer BBQ staples like Hunt’s Tomato Ketchup, Vlasic Kosher Dill Pickle Spears, Wish-Bone Italian Dressing, and Hebrew National Beef Hot Dogs, but they also make Reddi-wip Whipped Topping, which my kids love to have at any BBQ to squeeze on top of pies, fresh fruit, or right into their mouth. Conagra really has all of your BBQ and grilling needs taken care of.
One thing I love that Conagra is doing right now is supporting military families. They are making a donation to Operation Homefront to support military families. What a great way to honor these families.
Fun fact: I was born on Memorial Day! The date of it changes every year but it has always felt special to me. Both my grandfathers served in WW2. My grandfather on my dad’s side even received a Purple Heart for saving all the men on his flight (he was an Air Force pilot) before saving himself when his plane was gunned down in Germany. He was the last to exit the plane after it was shot down, and severely injured his leg. He was captured by Germans and brought to a medical tent. The Germans almost amputated his shot leg, but the Allied troops came just in time to save him. Doctors worked on his injury to improve it, and though he had an injured leg his whole life, he didn’t have to have it amputated. He passed away when I was younger, but I always remember how he never complained about his injury. I could see how strong he was. He knew he was lucky to have even lived. Many of his friends hadn’t made it home alive.
I am so thankful for the bravery of those who serve. They sacrifice their own lives and families every day. This Memorial Day, reflect on the true meaning of the day and the sacrifices made!
