Crumble Top Banana Bread
This Crumble Top Banana Bread is just what I needed to mix up my banana bread last week. I get so used to making the same banana bread every time we have overripe bananas, I wanted to make something a little different this time. I got the recipe from Little Bits Of – it was the first crumble top banana bread I’d found with really big crumbles. I baked some up right away and was so glad I did! That amazing crumble is life changing. It takes the banana bread to another level.
Crumble Top Banana Bread
Ingredients
Bread
- 1 egg
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. unsalted butter (room temp)
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 c. buttermilk or sour cream
- 2 overripe bananas (mashed)
- 2 c. all purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
Crumb Topping
- 1/2 c. powdered sugar
- 1/2 c. all purpose flour
- 4 tbsp. unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a large bowl of a mixer, fitted with a paddle attachment, beat together the sugar, egg and vanilla until combined. Add the butter and beat until smooth and the butter is fully incorporated. Beat in the buttermilk and bananas.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder and cinnamon. Slowly stir the dry ingredients into the wet until all the flour is incorporated. Spray a loaf pan with non-stick spray and pour in the batter.
- Make the crumb topping by combining the powdered sugar, flour, cinnamon salt and melted butter. Using your hands, crumble the mixture over the batter in the pan.
- Bake in a pre-heated 350 degree oven for 45 – 50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Bread is delightful, I have made it several times. It does take longer than 50 mins, typically an hour and 15 mins at this temp
So glad you like it! Thanks for the review – frustrating how all ovens cook so differently. Thanks for the tip!
