I created this pie crust recipe a decade ago after

I created this pie crust recipe a decade ago after trying tons of recipes that I just didn’t love. I tested out recipes with all butter crusts (they melted too fast), and I tested out all shortening crusts (they smelled like chemicals and missed that buttery flavor). After many tests I came up with this recipe that’s a butter & shortening combo.

Want to make sure you have a great recipe and all the info you need to make an amazing pie this Thanksgiving! I also shared in my highlight bubble a couple videos about how I get the wavy crust on my pies, in case you want to try.

Here are my tips for amazing Pie Crust:

•Don’t touch the dough too much when you’re first bringing it all together. If you have access to a food processor, make it in a food processor. This keeps the butter and shortening from warming up in your hands. If not, be sure to use a pastry cutter or knives to cut the fats in.
•Keep the dough chilled! I chill it after every step in the process.
•Use a little vinegar. It sounds strange but vinegar inhibits the formation of gluten. Using a little in this dough helps it stay flaky and keeps it from being tough.
•Keep the top edge of the crust a little thick – if it’s too thin it can burn.
•If your pie crust does ever start to look dark, and your pie filling still isn’t done baking, just cover the pie up loosely with aluminum foil. The pie will keep baking and this will keep the crust from burning.
•If you blind bake the crust, line it with parchment, and be sure to fill the whole thing up with pie weights or rice – the sides need to be filled high or the sides of the pie will melt down (trust me I’ve learned this the hard way!).

If you’re worried about cooking a turkey, don’t be! I honestly think it’s the easiest part of the Thanksgiving dinner because you just get it ready by slathering with oil or butter and salt & seasonings, and put it in the oven for several hours. Baste it and cook it until the juices run clear and you really can’t go wrong!

Thank you gobs of butter and olive oil for making the skin of this turkey so brown and crispy. 🧈🍗

In preparation for Thanksgiving I thought I’d post my favorite roasted turkey recipe—Orange Rosemary Roasted Turkey. I’ve made it for years now for Thanksgiving and it always turns out delicious.

In my recipe I laid out step by step instructions for turkey prep- including how to prep your sink with plastic garbage sacks so you can keep your kitchen as clean as possible.

I have a special method for pulling out the turkey giblets inside the cavity… I stick my hand inside a plastic bag, put the plastic bag inside the cavity, then pull out the giblets and turn the bag inside out, so I don’t have to touch them at all. Anyone else ever tried that??

Making a turkey can seem gross but once it’s in the oven it’s pretty simple.

Last year I put this quick prep list together for Thanksgiving for you... I want you to have a great Thanksgiving and not be stressed about the details. Getting a couple things done ahead of time really helps Thanksgiving run more smoothly.

Many of you are making your first Thanksgiving dinner complete from start to finish this year. It can feel overwhelming.

I wanted to lay this all out for you. I’ve been in charge of Thanksgiving and done this all start to finish 6 times and it is doable!

And you don’t even need to make all these dishes. If your family just wants mashed potatoes, turkey, rolls, and gravy just do that! If you don’t want to make pie, get one at Costco! This is full prep if you want to go all out, but most everyone can slim this down.

Don’t stress if you’re nervous. It’s going to be a wonderful Thanksgiving. And this will help.

Where are my mashed potato lovers? 🙋🏼‍♀️🥔

Not sure if your house is like ours, but during Thanksgiving here, mashed potatoes are always the favorite (well, besides the Lion House Rolls).

These Creamy Mashed Potatoes with a Crispy Topping are made by:
• Simmering milk and butter with thyme and whole garlic gloves
• Pouring this milk/butter mixture over the cooked potatoes as you whip them
• Toasting crushed panko breadcrumbs and Tim’s Parmesan Garlic potato chips with thyme for the crispiest, most flavorful little crunch on top.

The result? Fluffiest potatoes infused with flavor that is subtle enough even for kids (mine scarfed them down) -and the best of both textures: a crispy top with crunch, with creamy and fluffy potatoes underneath.

These are the perfect #thanksgiving side dish - or just great on their own😌
