Simple Homemade Naan

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • cups flour

Instructions

  • In a medium-sized bowl, add warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let yeast proof for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  • Add oil, yogurt, and salt to mixture. Mix well.
  • Then add flour in slowly, and once it gets thick begin to knead with your hands. You want the dough to be a little sticky so it stays soft but if it's too sticky you can add in a little more flour.
  • Knead on a countertop gently for 1-2 minutes. Place in a greased bowl and cover. Let rise (preferably in a warm place, like above the oven), for 30-45 minutes until doubled in size.
  • Once doubled in size, punch dough down and knead into a ball. Preheat a nonstick pan or griddle to the highest heat (my griddle goes up to 400°F).
  • To form naan, pull small sections off the dough and roll into balls (should divide into 10-14 small balls).
  • Flour your counter well and using a rolling pin to roll out each ball into a small circle or oval shape. Roll them thin, they will puff up when they cook.
  • Lay them on the hot pan or griddle and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, until they are lightly browned.
  • Remove from pan and cover with alumnium foil until ready to serve.
  • Serve warm and if desired, brush with melted butter. Pairs great with my Easy Chicken Tikka Masala. Enjoy!
