Ingredients

Meat

  • 1 lb. ground pork (can use any ground meat - ground beef, turkey, or chicken)
  • ½ onion (white or yellow), diced
  • 1 tbsp. fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tbsp. garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp. Chinese five spice
  • 2 tbsp. soy sauce
  • oil for cooking

Veggies

  • ½ head green cabbage, chopped in thin strips
  • 3 green onions, diced
  • can add any other veggies you'd like, like carrots or broccoli

Sauce

  • ½ c. soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp. apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tsp. sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp. oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp. white sugar

Pasta

  • 1 16 oz. package of chow mein noodles
  • salt
  • oil to toss noodles in

Toppings (optional)

  • sesame seeds
  • green onions, diced

Instructions

  • Start by chopping all your veggies and setting aside. Then heat a large pot full of slightly salted water to cook the pasta.
  • While the pasta water is heating up, bring 2 tbsp. of oil to a medium heat in a large non-stick skillet pan.
  • Add diced onions to pan and heat until translucent.
  • Then add fresh ginger and garlic, and simmer in pan for 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Add meat and cook until browned, breaking up chunks with a large spatula. Then add Chinese Five Spice and soy sauce and toss to coat browned meat.
  • Meanwhile, cook pasta in salted water when boiling. Chow mein only needs 4-5 minutes to cook so watch it closely and stir well so it doesn't stick.
  • Strain noodles once cooked and lightly toss with 1-2 tbsp. of oil so the noodles don't stick.
  • Once meat is browned, add cabbage and green onions (and any other veggies) to pan and cook down until cabbage is soft and tender.
  • Add sauce to veggies and meat and stir to cook until slightly bubbling.
  • Once sauce is bubbling turn heat down to low and add chow mein noodles. Using tongs, toss to mix noodles with meat and veggies.
  • Once mixed well serve and enjoy! Top with sesame seeds and/or fresh diced green onions.
