Ingredients

Indian Qeema Curried Beef

  • 1 lb. ground beef (I used 90/10 but use what you like best)
  • 2 tbsp. olive oil
  • 5 tbsp. ginger, grated
  • 5 tbsp. minced garlic
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped (yellow or white)
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. red pepper flakes (omit these if you don't want it spicy)
  • 2 tsp. red chili powder
  • 2 tsp. garam masala
  • 2 tsp. cumin
  • 1 1/2 tsp. coriander
  • 1 tsp. turmeric

Creamy Turmeric Yogurt Sauce

  • 1/2 onion, rough chopped (yellow or white)
  • 1 1/4 c. Greek yogurt, plain
  • 1/4 c. olive oil
  • 2 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp. minced garlic
  • 2 tbsp. white vinegar
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. turmeric

For Assembling Tacos

  • 10-12 soft tortillas, corn or flour
  • 4-5 limes, halved
  • fresh cilantro

Instructions

Creamy Turmeric Yogurt Sauce

  • Before making beef, prep your turmeric yogurt sauce so it can chill in the fridge while you make the tacos.
To make sauce, add all ingredients to high powered blender and puree until very smooth. Add additional salt to taste, if needed.
  • Pour sauce into air-tight container to chill until serving.

Indian Qeema Curried Beef

  • Before starting the beef, measure out all the spices into a bowl and set aside. This makes it easy to pour into the beef mixture when needed.
  • In a large saucepan or pot, add olive oil and heat on medium high heat. Add finely chopped onions. Stir to coat in oil, then cover and heat until soft.
  • Once soft, add garlic and ginger into pot. Stir for 1-2 minutes until garlic and ginger are fragrant.
  • Then add beef to pan. Sautee beef until cooked through. Then add all the spices and mix well.
  • Continue to sautee until beef is slightly crispy on the edges - this gives it a lot of flavor in the tacos. Strain beef and set aside. (Note, if you'd like your beef spicy but some in your group don't, you can set aside half the beef without red pepper flakes, then add some red pepper flakes to the other half - we really love the flavor of the spice, but it's too much for our kids. This is a good way to compromise.)

Assembling Tacos

  • To assemble tacos, warm tortillas in microwave or on the stove. Store in a tortilla warmer or between several clean kitchen towels to keep soft until serving.
  • Lay out tortilla, add a spoonful of the curried beef into the tortilla. Top with a drizzle or spoonful of the creamy yogurt turmeric sauce - then be sure to top with a squeeze of fresh lime juice - this really makes the taco.
  • Enjoy!
