All about my favorite acrylic paints !

Acrylic Paints

Painting with acrylic is a lot different than painting with watercolor in terms of the pigment. Shapes and brush strokes can be similar in each style but acrylic pigment is a lot more saturated than when you’re painting with water! I’ve tried several types of acrylic paints and will tell you about them here!

There are a couple different levels of acrylic paint I’ve used – I’ll only recommend brands I’ve liked (some brands separate and get all gross – but these all work well!). Some are less expensive and others are a little more, but overall acrylic is a pretty inexpensive way to paint – especially compared to oil.

Apple Barrel Acrylic Paint – Apple Barrel is definitely the lowest price you can find out there for acrylic paint – craft stores usually sell it and you can also get it on Amazon. I actually really like these paints. They are inexpensive but they have a wide range of colors and the pigment is pretty good. They are definitely good for the short term. They don’t store long term as well as higher priced paint – because they’ll start to separate and dry. However for short-term projects they’re a great option!

DecoArt Paints – DecoArt is more of a mid-range paint. It costs a little more but it also lasts longer, so if you’ll be storing your paints for a couple seasons, these are great options.

Martha Stewart Paint – This is the nicest acrylic paint I’ve used. You can get it at most craft stores or online. It’s really smooth, great color, and lasts so long without getting crackly or separating! I love this paint so much. I think the price is best at a craft store like JoAnn or Michaels.
